Volunteers helping in the garden
Garden-Volunteer

Volunteers are key.

Everyone working at the Food Cupboard is a volunteer, including our board of directors and all our hands-on shelf stockers, food organizers, bag fillers, food distributors, maintenance workers, gardeners, planners, phone answerers, record keepers, website developers, and more. We help community partners with food drives, fundraising activities, food pick-ups, and awareness outreach. We manage the monetary donations that come in, pay bills for our Cupboard home, and acknowledge our generous donors. Many, many, volunteers allow all this to happen.

The Food Cupboard relies entirely on the local community to support our mission. Volunteers are a diverse range of individuals who help out in many different ways. You must be at least age 18 to help inside the Food Cupboard. If you are younger, you can volunteer in the food garden or help organize a food drive.

Individuals or Groups

Holding a food drive or volunteering in the garden are excellent options for volunteering as a group, and both activities can be done to fulfill community service hours!

Hold a Food Drive

Our need for food is greater than ever, and you can be a vital part of helping put food on the table for people in need.

Volunteer in the Garden

Opportunities to volunteer in the garden are available for all ages and depend on the growing season.

Sponsor a Shelf

Groups can make an impact by agreeing to regularly collect specific food items that the Cupboard frequently purchases, such as cereal, crackers or granola bars.

Click here to contact us about sponsoring a shelf.

Current Shelf Sponsors include:

  • Kirk of Holly Springs Presbyterian Church for jelly
  • Sunrise United Methodist Church for peanut butter
  • Holly Grove Elementary School for cereal

Individuals Only

Individuals perform key tasks, both inside and outside the Cupboard! See our list of current needs, above. After completing the online sign up form, a representative from the Food Cupboard will contact you to get you started and answer any questions.

For individuals under the age of 18, current opportunities for volunteering are working in the garden and holding a food drive.

Delivery Drivers

1-2 p.m. Thursdays

Delivery drivers use their own vehicles to take food to clients who are unable to reach the Cupboard due to health or transportation issues. Deliveries are limited to a geographic area that allows the task to be completed in approximately 1 hour.

Distributions

Mondays noon – 4:30 p.m. and Thursdays 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Help set up for distributing food to clients, carry bags/boxes to client vehicles, and clean up after distribution.

Food Recovery

Food recovery volunteers collect donations from corporate partners and transport the donations to the Cupboard, weigh them in, log and store them.

Current opening: Join an existing team in picking up from Food Lion (517 N. Main Street) on Thursday mornings, every other week.

Sorting & Packing

Mondays 9-11 a.m. and Thursdays, noon-5 p.m.

Help accept donations, sort and organize food, pack bags and stock shelves.

Transportation

Transportation volunteers help with collecting and transporting to the Cupboard donations from drop off sites and food drives.
